Description

The urge to find meaning in abstraction is woven into how we see. From childhood, we search for familiar shapes in uncertain territory — reading figures into shadows, or letting clouds momentarily assemble into something recognizable before drifting apart again.

My Cloud Watching series is a shaped version of that perceptual moment. Each painting begins with a random graphic framework that gives me both structure and unpredictability. As I work, forms surface through a mix of intuition, chance, and the particular conditions of the studio. This approach becomes a way of letting the subconscious guide the image while still maintaining a loose sense of direction. The resulting compositions gather these emerging objects into a shared environment defined by its own internal logic.

Because the paintings aren’t tied to a personal narrative, they stay open for the viewer to inhabit. Each person brings their own histories and associations to the group of forms, completing the experience of visual closure in a way that is unique to their encounter with the work.
